I bought this car the first week of February, 1999. With just a K&N, NGK plugs and wires, and the intake silencer removed, it ran a 10.1 @ 72 in the 1/8mi. Not a bad starting point for a 10-year-old economy car with 194,000 miles.
I installed a DSM intercooler: | ![]() | ||
IC piping: | ![]() | ![]() |   |
After that I added:
- 14b turbo
- 1g DSM exhaust manifold and o2 housing
- 2.5" downpipe and exhaust (custom made with 2-chamber Flowmaster - sounds great!)
- DSM 450 injectors, cleaned and balanced from RC Engineering
- Apexi AFC (the old style)
- EGT gauge
With these additions, the car got down to 9.70s @ 77 in the 1/8mi (2.40 60ft's). This was on the slipping stock clutch. I put in a CFDF and a FWD DSM flywheel afterwards. I also hadn't tuned the AFC yet, so there's power to be gained there too. Boost was set from the stock 6psi (remember, no stock IC) to 18psi.
